Osmania University turned out into festival mode on the opening day of the 106th Foundation Day-Taksh, celebrated on Tuesday.
The Department of Commerce conducted a Business Quiz in which 20 teams and students from other affiliated colleges participated. Through a written preliminary round of elimination, six teams qualified and contested in the final round. Food stalls were put up by the students.
More than 750 students, scholars, teachers and about 100 citizens visited the Natural History Museum at the Department of Zoology on the opening day.
The Department of Zoology was abuzz with visitors since morning. Prof D Ravinder, Vice-Chancellor and Prof P Laxminarayana lauded the efforts put forth by the students and faculty of Zoology, and appreciated the manner in which the museum was being maintained.
Various programmes were organised at the University Post Graduate College.
The Department of Physics and Chemistry organised exhibitions and demonstrated their unique models and experiments in science. Various departments and teachers showcased their research work and other contributions to the visitors.
The Department of Biomedical Engineering has organised a workshop on a hands-on training programme on machine learning algorithms for medical imaging. Dr Ayan Debnath, senior Data Scientist, BOSCH global software technologies spoke while 55 students from different colleges attended the event. Dr Uday Krishnamurthy, Senior Scientist, Collaboration Manager, Siemens Healthcare, USA, was the chief guest and addressed the students about the role of machine learning in medical imaging.
In a contest of festival of ideas, 10 groups participated and presented their ideas. Chief guest Dr Uday Krishnamurthy handed over cash awards and merit certificates to the first and second prize winners.
