Nearly 11,328 jobs were lost in Telangana as 232 MSMEs closed down in the last three years. Data regarding this revealed in the Lok Sabha last week showed that during the Covid pandemic in 2020-21, nearly 10,749 jobs were lost in TS due to the closure of 128 MSMEs.
In Andhra Pradesh, 2,175 jobs were lost as 374 MSMEs closed down in 2020-23. Interestingly, the number of jobs lost in AP due to the closure of MSMEs in 2022-23 is higher than during the Covid pandemic year of 2021-22.
Around 1,652 jobs were lost and 261 MSMEs closed down in 2022-23 in Andhra Pradesh while in 2021-22, only 523 jobs were lost as 113 MSMEs closed down.
In fact, during the Covid year of 2021-22, Telangana MSMEs were the most hit and among the top in losing jobs.
The highest number of MSMEs closed down in Maharashtra where 23,058 jobs were lost as 5,110 MSMEs closed down. It was followed by Uttar Pradesh where 20,073 jobs were lost as 1,624 MSMEs closed down. In Tamil Nadu, 12,132 jobs were lost as 2,493 MSMEs closed down.
Telangana is fourth while Andhra Pradesh is in the 16th slot among states where jobs were lost due to the closures of MSMEs.
Across India, 1.34 lakh jobs were lost due to the closure of 19,640 MSMEs during 2020-23. The number of jobs lost nationwide due to the closure of MSMEs in the non-Covid year of 2022-23 is higher than during the Covid year of 2021-22.
Around 90,692 jobs were lost and 13,290 MSMEs closed down in 2022-23 in India while in 2021-22, only 42,662 jobs were lost as 6,222 MSMEs downed shutters.
