The Begum Bazar police on Wednesday took 15 leaders belonging to Shiv Sena for trying to take out a procession to the Ambedkar statue on the Tank Bund in support of the Uniform Civil Code Bill in the monsoon session of Parliament. The arrested were shifted to the Begum Bazar police station.

Siva Sena Telangana unit president Sinkaru Sivaji condemned the arrest of the party leaders on the pretext that the police permission was not obtained for taking out a procession. The Siva Sena intended to take out a peaceful procession and pay tributes to the Ambedkar statue. He maintained that the movement would go ahead. There was no alternative to the UCC for extending equal rights to all.

Referring to J and K leader Farooq Abdullah’s warning that implementation of UCC would trigger a cyclone in the country, the Shiv Sena leader pointed out that even a tsunami cannot halt the Bill.
