The 15th Monsoon Regatta, hosted by the Telangana Sailing Association and the Yacht Club of Hyderabad, continued into Day 5. Telangana’s Govardhan Pallara and Deekshita Komaravelly, along with Alia Sabreen of Orissa, are leading.
According to the Telangana Sailing Association, Govardhan has already won the Monsoon Regatta Trophy. With a 9-point lead over his closest rival, Deekshita, is also close to winning the SH Babu Memorial Trophy.
Unless something unexpected happens in tomorrow’s final race, Govardhan is set to win both trophies.
Rizwan Mohammad of Telangana is tied at 60 points with Aakash Tangai, close to the Bronze medal, though there’s an ongoing protest against him by a sailor from NSS Madhya Pradesh. If resolved favourably, this could mark a historic achievement for Telangana, as noted by Suheim Sheikh, President and High Performance Director of the Telangana Sailing Association.
Alia Sabreen of Orissa had a strong final day, winning two races and overtaking the leading Somya Singh of NSS Madhya Pradesh to secure the Gold in the ILCA4 Fleet for Under-18 sailors.
In the 420 Open category, NSS Madhya Pradesh dominated, leaving Telangana sailors behind.
Vaishnavi Veeravamsham and Shravan Kathravath won Bronze, while Divayanshi Mishra and Aniraj took first place, followed by Nancy Rai and Manish Sharma.
The ILCA4 Boys fleet has been highly competitive, with frequent protests and disputes. The International Jury is working through these issues, and Akshat Dohre of Madhya Pradesh is currently leading for Gold.
In the 29er fleet, no boats were on the water Friday, so the standings remain unchanged.
The strong winds led to retirements of top sailors Shreya Krishna of Tamil Nadu and Bunny Bongur of TSC Mysore. A second discard was permitted after the 11th race.
