The Union Ministry of Power-led Bureau of Energy Efficiency has announced that the State-level Steering Committee (SLSC) model of Andhra Pradesh is being followed by the majority of the States across the country for effective implementation of energy conservation.

During the Foundation Day celebrations of BEE organised at Scope Complex in New Delhi on Wednesday, Director General (DG) of BEE Abhay Bakre said that 18 States including Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Odisha, Haryana, Bihar, Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Telangana and Tripura etc. were following the model of Andhra Pradesh and Kerala in constituting SLSC headed by the Chief Secretary to the government involving all the key departments for effective monitoring and implementation of energy-efficiency programmes.

Andhra Pradesh constituted SLSC around two years ago. This significant step helped the Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission, the State Designated Agency (SDA) of AP, to excel in energy efficiency and reach many milestones.

According to BEE, recognising the exemplary performance of Chief Executive Officer of APSECM A Chandrasekhara Reddy and immense contribution of APSECM in coordinating, regulating and enforcing the provisions of the Energy Conservation (EC) Act at the State level and also playing a vital role in carrying out energy conservation and energy efficiency activities and implementing different schemes formulated by the Central government, the DG felicitated the CEO.

BEE Secretary R K Rai termed the Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission as the torch-bearer of the energy-efficiency movement among all the SDAs, as it played a proactive role in conducting various awareness programmes and penetrated them to the grassroots-level, duly involving industries, farmers, NGOs, self-help groups, employees and students.
