Hyderabad: Around 19,000 people have been shifted to safer places in Telangana districts. DGP Anjani Kumar said that this was done with the help of district administrations.
Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari directed Collectors to take steps to prevent infectious diseases in flood-affected areas as the heavy rains that have been lashing the state for the past few days have started ebbing.
The CS held a teleconference on Friday with Collectors regarding relief measures as well as the precautions to be taken in areas affected by floods.The CS appreciated the fact that so far the loss of life and property has been minimised due to the collective efforts of collectors, the police and district administrations. She said that relief efforts should be carried out for another 24 hours.
As the floods have receded, Collectors were told to carry out sanitation programmes vigorously to check infectious diseases. Proper care should be taken in providing infrastructure, adequate food and fresh water to flood victims in relief camps, the CS said.
The NDRF teams which are already in place should be continued while providing relief. Of the 10 NDRF teams, two are in Bhadrachalam and Nirmal while a team has been deployed in Kothagudem, Mulugu, Warangal, Khammam, Bhupalapalli and Hyderabad.
The CS made it clear that the government is ready to provide whatever assistance is needed for rehabilitation programmes.
She said that special control rooms have been set up in several districts and senior police officers have been sent to monitor the situation. Irrigation Department Special Chief Secretary Rajat Kumar said that the work of restoring breached tanks and ponds in the state is going on in full swing.
Disaster Management Department Secretary Rahul Bojja said that although some districts have received heavy rains, the damage was minimised by the joint efforts of the NDRF and the district administrative machinery. Collectors briefed about the relief and rehabilitation measures in their districts.
Revenue Principal Secretary Navin Mittal, Medical and Health Secretary Rizvi, Finance Secretary TK Sridevi, HMWS & SB MD Dana Kishore, GHMC Commissioner Ronald Ross, Fire Services DG Nagireddy and other senior officers attended the teleconference.
