Heavy rain likely to continue until tomorrow

The State of Andhra Pradesh has been receiving incessant rains, thanks to the depression formed over the Bay of Bengal. The State has so far received around 193.2 mm of rainfall, as against the normal 230 mm. Also, inflows have been increasing in all reservoirs while the upper catchment areas are getting heavy to very heavy rains.

Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a press release that heavy rainfall activity was likely to continue in Andhra Pradesh over the West Coast until July 27. The officials concerned are taking precautionary measures to prevent losses. Also, the Andhra Pradesh State Development Planning Society (APSDPS) has alerted people regarding rains.

On Tuesday, the State received 194.10 mm rainfall as against the normal rainfall of 230 mm.

Konduru in NTR district registered the highest rainfall of 138 mm, Rangapuram of Reddigudem mandal in NTR district registered 111.25 mm, and Gosthani of Anandapuram in Visakhapatnam district registered 100.75 mm of rainfall.

Etcherla in Srikakulam district registered 92.50 mm, and Tamada of Laveru mandal in Srikakulam registered 89.25 mm of rainfall. The continuous rain has helped the State get the normal rainfall. As of now, Krishna, Guntur, and Bapatla districts have registered excess rainfall.

Krishna district registered 348.60 mm of rainfall as against the normal of 262.30 mm, Guntur registered 293.90 mm of rainfall while the normal rainfall is 240.60 mm, and Bapatla district registered 219.80 mm of rainfall as against the normal of 174.30 mm rainfall.

Meanwhile, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Kakinada, East Godavari, Eluru, NTR, Prakasam, Kurnool, Nandyal, Anantapur and Chittoor districts registered normal rainfall so far. Dr BR Ambedkar Konaseema, West Godavari, Palnadu, SPS Nellore, Sri Satya Sai, YSR, Annamayya and Tirupati districts have received deficit rainfall.

On the other hand, various tributaries in NTR district are witnessing very good flow. As a result, flood water is flowing across Kattaleru at Vinagadapa of Gampalagudem mandal. However, flood water has affected vehicular traffic and around 20 villages have no connectivity. In the wake of the situation, ACP Ramesh and Tiruvuru CI Rudraju Bhimaraju supervised the safety measures to prevent untoward incidents on Cheemalapadu–Gampalagudem road.

Also, Vijayawada city registered 43 mm of rainfall on Tuesday. Due to the continuous downpour, water stagnated at various low-level areas in the city creating severe trouble for the people. Rain water stagnated on many roads in the city.

Similarly, the Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada is receiving 7,400 cusecs of flood water from the upper reaches and the Irrigation Department officials released the same surplus water into the sea by lifting 10 gates to a height of one foot. Also, officials maintained the crest gate level at 12 feet.

The Pulichintala Project is receiving 12,560 cusecs of water from the upstream. As of now, the crest gates level is 175 feet with storage of 10.59 TMC of water.

Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Kakinada, East Godavari, Eluru, NTR, Prakasam, Kurnool, Nandyal, Anantapur and Chittoor districts registered normal rainfall so far. Dr BR Ambedkar Konaseema, West Godavari, Palnadu, SPS Nellore, Sri Satya Sai, YSR, Annamayya and Tirupati districts have received deficit rainfall.
