Two people have been arrested and a case registered against them for hunting a spotted deer and consuming its meat.
The incident that took place in Pamidipadu of Atmakur mandal in Nellore district came to light on Wednesday. The Forest officials arrested the duo and started an investigation.
The accused were identified as Ankaiah and Krishnaiah of Pamaidipadu.
They caught a deer from the nearby forest area, kept it with them for a week, and consumed the meat on Sunday. The locals who noticed the incident informed the Forest officials.
The Nellore DFO stated that the accused persons found a spotted deer on the village outskirts. The duo, under the influence of alcohol, captured the animal and took it home.
They fed it well for a week and slaughtered it on Sunday and cooked and ate it.
The arrested were later remanded. A case has been registered. The village is surrounded by reserve forest and there is a decent number of wildlife wandering in the area. Regular vigilance has been tightened and all the measures have been taken to protect the wildlife.
Strict actions will be taken against those who kill the wild animals, the DFO added.
