The police seized 25 kg of cannabis and arrested a 16- member gang at Vedullapalli deaf and dumb school near here.
Addressing a press meet here on Monday, SP Vakul Jindal said that on a tip-off, the police conducted a raid and seized 25 kg ganja, worth Rs 2.5 lakh, eight mobile phones and a car which was used to transport the ganja.
A police team, led by Bapatla Rural CI Venugopal Reddy and Vedullapalli SI Naga Srinu, supervised by Bapatla DSP Venkatesulu, conducted a raid, seized the ganja and arrested the gang.
The SP appreciated the police team and presented appreciation letters to them.
The peddlers brought the ganja from Odisha state to Ongole and they were supplying the same to the surrounding areas.
The SP said the police previously used to counsel the ganja peddlers and now the police open a suspect sheet against them.
The SP warned of stringent action if anybody is involved in ganja selling or consumption in the district.
SP Vakul Jindal said that an awareness programme christened as ‘Sankalpam’ was organized to sensitize the students in 51 colleges about the ill-effects of ganja consumption. He appealed to the people to inform them about the ganja sale to 100 or 83338 13228.
