District Collector Chadalavada Nagarani flagged off the ‘2K Run’ here on Tuesday. The event was organised to create awareness of greenery and cleanliness, as part of ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ programme.
“The surroundings should be clean and full of greenery. We should maintain cleanliness to be a part of our nature and our culture so that we do not dump garbage on the roads and public places. All are advised to dump garbage only in the specified areas,” the Collector made it clear while addressing the gathering.
She said that good habits should be inculcated from the student stage itself so that a good society could be built besides keeping the environment clean. She also advocated cultivating the habit of doing physical exercises.
Tanuku MLA Aarumilli Radha Krishna called upon people to keep the Tanuku town clean and green. He asked the faculty to explain to the students the importance of greenery and planting saplings.
The 2K run began at Sri Chitturi Indrayya Memorial Government College and ended at the Municipal Office in which over 6000 students took part. KRCC special deputy Collector B Shivannarayana Reddy and municipal commissioner T Ram Kumar were among those who took part in the programme.
