A weekend outing took a devastating turn as a car carrying six engineering students plunged into a canal in East Godavari district on Sunday, resulting in the death of three students and leaving three others injured.
The horrific accident occurred when the car, with registration number AP 39 HR 0907, veered off the bridge and fell into the canal at Burugupudi Gate in Korukonda mandal. The high speed of the vehicle at the time of the accident is suspected to have contributed to the tragedy.
The deceased students have been identified as Uday Kiran, Harsh Vardhan, and Hemant, all third-year B Tech. students studying at Ramachandra Engineering College in the nearby Eluru district. Their bodies were later shifted to Rajamahendravaram Government Hospital for postmortem examinations, while the injured students are currently receiving medical treatment at the same hospital.
According to reports, the group of college students was returning home after enjoying a weekend trip at the scenic Maredumilli nature hub in the Alluri Sitaramaraju district.
Local authorities have registered a case and initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the tragic accident. The incident has left the community in shock and mourning the loss of young lives.
