4 killed as van rams lorry

In a ghastly road accident, four persons were killed and two others injured when the Tata magic van in which they were travelling rammed a stationary lorry from behind near Mallepally village, 45 KMs from here, in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Sub-inspector Ganesh Kumar said the accident took place on the National Highway, when the occupants of the van were proceeding to Kashimkota in Anakapalli district to worship goddess Paramatamma Thalli. As many as 13 persons were travelling when the mishap took place. Gandepalli police, who registered a case, identified the deceased AS van driver Konda (38), Manga (36), Prasad (48) and Mahesh (28). Konda died on the spot while the other three deceased died on the way to hospital.

The deceased and victims belonged to Donapalli village. The lorry which was going ahead of the ill-fated van stopped suddenly. The ill-fated van driver was unable to control the vehicle resulting in it ramming the stationery lorry from the rear end. The condition of one of the injured Paravati is said to be very critical.Meanwhile, in another ghastly road accident, two students were killed when the motorcycle which they were riding hit by an unidentified vehicle at Ponnekallu village in Tadikonda mandal on the night of Wednesday. Police said that three students were going on the bike which was hit by an unidentified vehicle killing Namala Sai Kumar and Nutakki Nagamalleswara Rao.

Another student Talluri Ajay Kumar suffered serious injuries in the accident and he was shifted to the GGH in Guntur where his condition is said to be very critical. Tadikonda SI Narasimha rushed to the place and shifted the bodies to the GGH for post-mortem. The police registered a case and launched a hunt for the unknown vehicle which hit the bike.
