AP Fiber Net Limited Chairman GV Reddy has announced the dismissal of 410 employees due to alleged violations of recruitment regulations in the Corporation. He announced the removal of 410 employees who were hired without proper authorisation or investigation, often based solely on WhatsApp messages.
He said that the previous administration had appointed a significant number of employees over the last five years, exceeding the actual needs of the organisation. He claimed that many of these appointments were purportedly influenced by political recommendations, with employees often engaging in personal services for legislators and parliament members while still on the Fiber Net payrolls.
“It is acceptable if employees are working for the organisation, but it is unacceptable that several are alleged to be cooking at the residences of legislators or driving for Parliament members while drawing salaries from Fiber Net,” he criticised.
He further emphasised that many employees were integrated into the payroll without any appointment letters, essentially recruiting them directly onto the payrolls without due process.
The Chairman made it clear that the identification of these 410 individuals, deemed unnecessary and improperly appointed, is just the beginning. He indicated that if further unqualified personnel are found, they too will be removed. Reddy pointed out that around 70-75 per cent of the workforce was hired unnecessarily under the previous administration, which he claims led the organisation into significant financial distress.
“We have no animosity towards the employees. However, those without appointment letters are being removed immediately. This mismanagement has put the company in a position where it is now required to pay Rs 4 crore per month, pushing us toward bankruptcy,” he explained. He mentioned that the previous government had left behind debts amounting to Rs2,100 crore.
The Chairman plans to pursue legal action against those responsible for the illegitimate recruitments. “We will send legal notices to those who authorized such appointments and recover dues if necessary. The previous MD acted recklessly, and it is our responsibility to correct these wrongdoings,” Reddy asserted.
He flayed the previous government’s handling of the State-run corporation, stating that while during Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s tenure 108 employees were paid Rs 40 lakh monthly, the previous administration ballooned this to ?4 crore for 1,360 employees. Reddy lamented that over the past five years, the efficiency of Fiber Net services had drastically diminished, with new connections dropping from a potential of 10 lakh to just five lakh.
