Joint Collector Lavanya Veni has said that 4,275 flood victims have been shifted to 12 relief camps and 45 villages in Velerupadu and Kukkunuru mandals were affected by the Godavari floodwater.
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, the Joint Collector said that 35 villages in Velerupadu mandal and 10 villages in Kukkunuru were affected by the floodwater and the villages have been in floodwater for the last 10 days. The flood has started receding and danger signal two has been issued at Bhadrachalam.
She said that 13,764 people of 4,779 families in the two mandals were affected by the flood. As many as 9,166 flood victims were shifted to safer places while 4,275 victims were shifted to 12 relief camps.
The required facilities including food and drinking water were being provided to them and 36 medical camps were set up to provide medical treatment, she said, adding that there are 119 pregnant women among the flood victims of which 9 were shifted to hospital and 110 pregnant women are under the care of their close relatives and R&R colonies.
As part of flood relief operations, eight mechanised boats and nine motor boats were pressed into service in the flood- affected areas. Two SDRF teams and one NDRF team, one fire brigade team were taking part in the relief operations.
The Joint Collector said that 10 generator sets were kept ready to be used in case of emergency. “As many as 11.69 lakh water packets have been distributed to the flood victims. As much as 25 kg rice, in addition to the ration rice, onions, potatoes and seven varieties of vegetables are being distributed to the flood victims, who are in the relief camps,” she said.
Sub-collector, ITDA PD, RDO, ZPCEO, DRDA PD, DWAMA PD and ZP officer have been directed to monitor the maintenance of relief camps and providing facilities to the victims, Lavanya Veni stated. Tahasildars, VROs, secretariat and ward staff were also taking part in the relief operations during the night also.
“About 140 sanitary staff have been deployed to the flood affected areas to carry out sanitation. So far, 8,000 kg of bleaching powder and 30,000 limestone powder have been used in the flood relief camps and flood affected villages as part of sanitation. As many as 24 fogging machines are being used to check the mosquito menace,” the Joint Collector stated.
An amount of Rs 10,000 would be given to each of the damaged houses after assessment as per the Chief Minister’s directions, she said. Additionally, Rs 2,000 would be given to each of the families when they go back to their villages from the relief camps after receding of flood water, she added.
