In a tragic road accident, five members of a family lost their lives and two others sustained critical injuries when their car rammed into a tanker lorry at Vadisaleru village in Rangampet mandal of East Godavari district on Monday.
According to police, the family had visited the beach in Kakinada and was returning to Rajahmundry when their car collided with the rear of the tanker. The impact killed five people on the spot. The deceased were identified as Relangi Shivannaryana (40), Relangi Devi Lalita (34), Relangi Varshita (13), Teegireddy Shiva (30) and Teegireddy Sanvi (4). The injured were Teegireddy Bhavani and Relangi Harshita. The injured were shifted to the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Kakinada, where their condition is said to be critical.
The accident caused a major disruption of traffic on the Kakinada–Rajahmundry highway, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded on both sides of the road.
Labour Minister Vasamsetti Subhash expressed shock and grief over the incident. He spoke to district officials and directed them to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured.
