500 new basti dawakhanas to be set up by June end: Minister

Finance and Health Minister T Harish Rao announced that a total of 500 basthi dawakhanas will be set up by the end of June.

He held a review meeting on Thursday to discuss the progress of several key health projects in the state. During the meeting, the minister announced plans to set up 500 Basti Dawakhanas across the state, with 363 currently providing services and another 57 ready to open. The minister directed officials to expedite the opening of these dispensaries, with all 500 Basti dispensaries expected to be fully functional by the end of June.

The minister also discussed the progress of the Basti Dawakhanas, Palle Dawakhanas, and Kanti Velugu programme. Regarding the Palle Dawakhanas, Minister Harish Rao ordered that 3,206 of them should be fully functional by the end of this month. The minister emphasised the importance of making the timings of these Palle Dawakhanas easily accessible to the public and directed that the doctor’s phone number should be displayed on the board. He also suggested that boards should be set up to inform the public about the services provided, tests conducted, and wellness activities offered at these Palle Dawakhanas.

Minister Harish Rao emphasised the importance of providing quality medical care to the people and directed officials to expedite the construction of several hospitals, including Warangal Health City, TIMS Hospitals, and the expansion works of NIMS. He pledged to review the progress of these projects on a monthly basis, with officials expected to provide regular progress reports.

Minister Harish Rao also discussed the success of the Kanti Velugu program, which completed eye examinations for 1.31 crore people in just 67 working days. The distribution of prescription glasses to those in need has already begun, and 12 lakh people have received them. However, the Minister ordered that distribution should be completed soon in districts where it is below the state average of 95%.
