IIPE-Visakhapatnam hosted its 4th Annual Convocation on Saturday, marking a significant moment for the institute. The event was a celebration of academic excellence and a call to action for the graduating class to drive innovation in the energy sector. The highlight of the ceremony was the conferral of the institute’s first Ph.D. degree to Gouri Sankar Das. Das was recognized for his pioneering research on “Advanced Nano-carbons from Waste and Biomass for Renewable Energy Technologies, Green Hydrogen Production, and Fabrication of Flexible Electronics.”
In addition to this groundbreaking achievement, 58 B.Tech. graduates received their degrees in Petroleum and Chemical Engineering, symbolising a pivotal milestone in IIPE’s history.
Aayushi Jagat Gangwar was awarded the prestigious President’s Gold Medal for her outstanding academic performance and significant contributions to extracurricular activities. Notably, top performers in each discipline were also honoured with gold and silver medals, with Abdul Rahman S. and B Abhinav Tryambakrao recognised in Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, respectively, and Ayush Ranjan and Aayushi Jagat Gangwar receiving silver medals.
Chief Guest Prof. VVSS Sarma, Chief Scientist at CSIR-NIO Regional Centre, commended the graduates and encouraged them to lead advancements in the energy sector. He emphasized the critical need for innovative solutions to address climate change and underscored the importance of ethical practices in the energy industry. Prof. Sarma also highlighted the ‘Make in India’ initiative, stressing its role in enhancing India’s global stature in energy production.
Prof. Shalivahan, Director of IIPE, extended his congratulations to the graduates and their families, outlining the institute’s strategic vision for the future. He emphasised priorities such as international collaboration, industry partnerships, and tackling current challenges in the oil and gas domains. Prof. Shalivahan also shared updates on the ongoing construction of IIPE’s permanent campus, expressing optimism that the next convocation would be hosted at this new facility.
The ceremony concluded with Prof. Shalivahan acknowledging IIPE’s remarkable placement record and expressing gratitude to the faculty, staff, and stakeholders who have contributed to the institute’s success. Overall, the 4th Annual Convocation not only honoured academic achievements but also charted a visionary course for future energy innovation, leaving a profound impact on the graduating class and the broader energy sector.
