A devastating accident occurred on Saturday in Pullampet village, Annamayya district, resulting in the loss of six lives and leaving eight others injured, when an oil tanker collided with an APSRTC bus carrying passengers to Tirupati from Kadapa.

According to the police report, the RTC bus was navigating a curve when a speeding oil tanker truck crashed into it, causing the immediate death of six bus passengers. The victims were identified as Gundala Srinivasulu (62) from Obulavaripalli village, Sekhar (45) from Venkata Rajam pet in Rajampet mandal, and Basha (65) from Kadapa city.

The injured passengers were swiftly taken to Rajampet government hospital, with two of them in critical condition. It was revealed by the victims that the accident resulted from reckless driving at high speed by the oil tanker driver.

The collision led to severe disruption of traffic on the Rajampet-Tirupati highway, with a considerable number of vehicles stranded on both sides of the road. However, the authorities managed to clear the traffic after removing the ill-fated bus and the tanker from the scene.

In the wake of this tragedy, Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed profound grief and shock over the loss of lives in this ghastly road accident.

He promptly announced Rs 10 lakh ex gratia for the families of each deceased, Rs 2 lakh for each seriously injured, and Rs 50,000 for those who suffered minor injuries. Additionally, he directed the district officials to provide the best possible medical treatment to the injured and extend all necessary assistance.
