Chief Secretary KS Jawahar Reddy has said that the State government is taking steps to provide large scale employment to educated unemployed youth by setting up various Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) units in the State. He reviewed the MSME sector with the officials at the CS camp office in Vijayawada on Saturday.
On this occasion, Jawahar Reddy said that in the year 2022-23, the target was to set up 1.25 lakh units at a cost of 15,625 crore and provide employment to more than 1.56 lakh people, while till now 92,707 units have been created at a cost of 9,677 crore, which is 62 percent of the target has been achieved and 75 percent of the target has been achieved by providing employment to 3.61 lakh people.
The CS further said that 1.50 lakh units will be set up in the year 2023-2024 and efforts are being made to provide employment to 7.50 lakh people. The CS has ordered Commissioner of Industries Department Praveen Kumar to talk to the Collectors to identify the lands required for setting up MSME units in all districts across the state and take appropriate measures for creating other infrastructure. He instructed the officials of the Industries Department to take necessary steps to enable the various units being set up under the MSME Cluster Development Program to be started on October 2.
Under the principle of one district one product, the CS ordered the officials of the Department of Industries and Department of Handloom Textiles to identify at least two or three products from each district and send those proposals to the Central government. The CS reviewed several issues related to the MSME sector in this meeting with the concerned officials.
Earlier, State Industries Commissioner K Praveen Kumar explained the progress of the programmes in the MSME sector across the State through a powerpoint presentation. Since the beginning of this programme in the state till now, 3.94 lakh various MSME units have been established and 34.84 lakh people have been employed in these sectors. He further explained that DPRs have been received for 46 projects for setting up various units under the MSME Cluster Development Programme.
