Hyderabad: Telangana is among the top states in the country with the State’s Own Tax Revenue (SOTR) funding 70.6% of the budget in fiscal 2022-23. In 2021-22, Telangana was at the top in its own revenue with 74.78% of expenditure coming from its own sources. In 2022-23, Gujarat and Haryana overtook TS.
In 2022-23, own revenue was Rs 1,33,633.56 crore and Revenue Expenditure was Rs 18,9274.82. As per data tabled in the Rajya Sabha, own revenue as a % of Revenue Expenditure was 71.46% in 2016-17, which went to 77.32% in 2017-18, 77.30% in 2018-19, 68.90% in 2019-20, 59.05% in 2020-21, 74.78% in 2021-22 and 70.6% in 2022-23.
The total outstanding liabilities of Telangana as a percentage of its GSDP is 28.2% at the end of March 2021, 27.4 per cent in March 2022 (RE) and 28.2 % in March 2023 (BE).
Telangana is among the bottom states in debt with a debt-to-GSDP ratio of 28.2%. The data was given in the Rajya Sabha by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance, Pankaj Chaudhary.
Under the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Expenditure/Investment 2023-24, the Centre released Rs 1,024.58 crore to Telangana. The share of taxes and duties which devolved to Telangana in 2023 is Rs 1,96,68.15 crore
