The Andhra Pradesh Health Department has received approval to install additional CT scan machines and cardiac catheterisation laboratories (cath labs) in nine government general hospitals (GGHs) to improve diagnostic services. Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav has cleared the proposal aimed at strengthening public healthcare infrastructure.

Under the approved plan, CT scan machines will be installed in the GGHs at Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Guntur, Tirupati and Kurnool, based on projected diagnostic demand. Notably, a CT scanner will be established for the first time at the Government Hospital for Chest and Communicable Diseases (GHCCD) in Visakhapatnam. These installations, funded by the state government, are expected to cost around Rs 27 crore. Currently, 21 CT scanners are operational across 18 GGHs in the state.

In addition, three new cardiac catheterisation laboratories will be set up at the GGHs in Srikakulam, Nellore and Tirupati. These facilities, designed for advanced cardiac diagnostics such as angiograms and stent placements, will be established under a public-private partnership model. The estimated cost for the cath labs is approximately Rs 17 crore.
