Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development Ponguru Narayana has announced that Vigilance and the CID will investigate irregularities in the purchase of Transferable Development Rights (TDR) bonds in Visakhapatnam. Speaking in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Friday, he assured that strict action would be taken against those found guilty based on the investigation reports.
Narayana alleged that irregularities had occurred in TDR bond transactions during the previous government’s tenure, particularly in Tanuku and Tirupati. He stated that while the actual value of TDR bonds in Tanuku was Rs 63.24 crore, bonds worth Rs 754 crore were issued. Similarly, in Tirupati, 29 TDR bonds were issued for Rs 170.99 crore. He added that 965 TDR bonds are currently pending and assured that the government would provide complete clarity on the issue within three months.
Addressing the status of Rajiv Swagruha housing projects, the minister explained that the initiative was launched in 2007 to develop Middle-Income Group (MIG) housing.
While the project has been completed in Anantapur and Kurnool, it remains pending in other locations, covering a total area of 571.69 acres. The ministerial sub-committee has proposed various pricing options, but legal complications may arise if pending houses are cancelled. Narayana stated that a final decision on the way forward would be taken after discussions with MLAs from the concerned constituencies.
