Minister for Revenue, Registration and Stamps Anagani Satya Prasad has clarified that there are no proposals for reorganisation of districts from either the State government or the Chief Commissioner of Land Administration. However, he said two proposals for new revenue divisions are under government consideration. One suggests creating a new revenue division for Addanki, which would alter the existing divisions in Bapatla district—Bapatla, Chirala, and Repalle. The other proposes establishing Madakasira as a revenue division in Sri Sathya Sai district.
Speaking during the Question Hour in the Legislative Council on Friday, the Minister criticised the previous government’s handling of district reorganisation, calling it chaotic and contrary to public aspirations, which led to widespread protests.
Satya Prasad accused the previous administration, led by Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, of using district reorganisation as a diversion from pressing public issues, including employee unrest and Pay Revision Commission (PRC) matters. He questioned the need for a sudden notification without thorough Cabinet discussion.
He alleged that the hasty district formations had led to regional disputes and geographical challenges. He cited instances where districts were named without relevance to the region and adjacent areas were merged without logical justification. He claimed that political interests influenced the arbitrary reshuffling of constituencies, divisions, and mandals.
Despite new districts being notified in 2022, the Minister pointed out that their headquarters lacked proper infrastructure until the change in government. He said the current administration has since prioritised infrastructure development.
Satya Prasad also criticised the lack of transparency and planning in the previous government’s district formation process, which he said triggered state-wide protests. He referred specifically to violent demonstrations over the renaming of the Konaseema district, blaming the previous administration for failing to manage the situation even as residents protested for four days.
The Minister reaffirmed that any future district reorganisation would be undertaken with careful consideration and public engagement.
