March 21 will witness several small-budget films releasing on the big screens and Tuk Tuk is one of them. Directed by Supreet Krishna, the film stars Saanvi Megghana and Nihal Kodhati in lead roles, with Harsha Roshan (Court fame), Karthikeya Dev, and Steven Madhu playing key characters.
“We selected all the actors through auditions,” said Supreet Krishna. He further mentioned that some of the young actors have already gained popularity, which could benefit the film’s success.
Speaking about the film’s inspiration, Supreet revealed that the idea stemmed from a vehicle he saw in a cricket advertisement. “What if a vehicle had a life of its own?” he wondered. This thought sparked a concept that blends humour, fantasy and emotions, all wrapped in a commercial package.
Addressing comparisons with past Telugu films where vehicles played pivotal roles, such as Bamma Mata Bangaru Bata, Mechanic Mavayya and Karu Diddina Kaapuram, Supreet clarified, “Tuk Tuk is an entirely original film. It is neither copied from nor inspired by any other movie.” Interestingly, while the story is set in Chittoor, the film was entirely shot near Amalapuram. “We wanted to capture the monsoon season, so we chose Amalapuram for the shoot,” said the director.
The story follows three teenage boys, played by Harsha, Karthikeya and Madhu, who were cast after rigorous auditions and workshops. The film’s central character is the vehicle Tuk Tuk, which is not just a mode of transport but an entity that knows the past, present, and future. It humorously responds to questions while carrying a deep emotional core.
Harsha Roshan, who gained attention with Court, plays a major role in Tuk Tuk. “Yes, he has a significant part in our film as well,” the director confirmed. He added that the film incorporates elements of fantasy, mystery, and a well-structured screenplay while maintaining a strong commercial appeal. A native of a village near Chittoor, Supreet Krishna previously worked as a writer for Puri Jagannadh. He also directed Alanaati Sitralu, which was released directly on OTT. Tuk Tuk marks his official directorial debut in feature films.

Interestingly, he hinted at plans to develop a franchise, with each film centered around a different vehicle with a unique backstory. “I want to explore fresh and innovative subjects, just like Tuk Tuk,” he said when asked about his future plans.
