Speaker inaugurates first meeting of Legislative Committees

Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Chintakayala Ayyannapatrudu, on Wednesday, inaugurated the first meeting of five newly-formed Legislative Committees. The Rules Committee, Privileges Committee, Ethics Committee, Committee on Government Assurances, and the Petitions Committee convened for their inaugural session, attended by their respective chairpersons and members. The Rules Committee deals with procedural matters, the Privileges Committee addresses breaches of House rules, the Ethics Committee handles misconduct, the Committee on Government Assurances scrutinises ministerial promises, and the Petitions Committee examines petitions.
Addressing the gathering, the Speaker stressed the importance and significance of these committees in resolving public grievances and protecting members’ rights. He described the committees as ‘mini-legislatures’ that help distribute the Assembly’s workload and urged members to make the best use of the opportunities provided.
Referring to Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s remarks, the Speaker stressed the need for a constructive opposition and urged members to fulfil their responsibilities without delay, irrespective of their political affiliations.
Prominent speakers at the event included Deputy Speaker K Raghurama Krishna Raju, who chairs the Petitions Committee, Pithani Satyanarayana, Chairperson of Rules Committee, Dr Kamineni Srinivas, who leads the Committee on Government Assurances, and Mandali Buddha Prasad, Chairperson of Ethics Committee. Secretary-General Prasanna Kumar Suryadevara also addressed the members, providing clarifications on their queries.
Later in the day, Legislative Council Chairman K Moshen Raju, Speaker Chintakayala Ayyannapatrudu, and Deputy Speaker K Raghurama Krishna Raju met with Legislative staff to convey their appreciation for the successful conduct of budget sessions. The leaders extended Ugadi and Ramzan festival greetings to the staff and commended their dedication to legislative duties.
