A mile stone in sustainble irrigation

Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy switched on the Phase-III pumping station of the Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme at Devannapet in Warangal district on Thursday, marking a major milestone in the state’s efforts to ensure sustainable irrigation and drinking water supply.
Accompanied by Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, MLAs Kadiyam Srihari, K. Nagaraju and Yashaswini Reddy, he later visited the Dharmasagar Reservoir and addressed a press conference, where he reiterated the Congress Government’s commitment to complete the execution of the Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme covering all three phases.
“The successful commissioning of the Phase-III pumping station is a decisive step towards protecting standing crops, securing the ayacut and meeting the drinking water needs of Telangana,” Uttam said.

“We will not rest until every drop of the Devadula Irrigation Project reaches the fields and homes it is meant for,” he said.
He said that a high-level delegation, including himself and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, had recently met Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil in New Delhi to seek Central assistance and funding for completing the remaining work.
He blamed the BRS admin for incomplete documentation, which had delayed approvals and the pace of execution. “The BRS government abandoned this project and neglected farmers,” he added.

The Devannapet Pump House, a critical element of Phase-III, stands out for its engineering scale. With a total depth of 144.50 meters and an outer diameter of 25.50 meters, the pump house is equipped with three 31 MW synchronous motors operating at 11 KV and 1740 Amps. Each vertical Francis-type pump discharges 16.64 cumecs (584 cusecs), enabling a total discharge of 49.92 cumecs (1752 cusecs). Water is pumped from the Godavari River via the Sammakka–Sarakka Barrage, with one TMC routed through Phase-III from Ramappa Tank, in addition to the one TMC already supplied to Dharmasagar via earlier phases.
