Govt aims at slum-free AP by 2047: Narayana

The Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister, Ponguru Narayana, has stated that the government is working towards transforming Andhra Pradesh into a slum-free State by 2047. He was speaking at the Swarna Andhra 2047 conference as the chief guest at the School of Planning and Architecture in Vijayawada.
The Minister emphasised that the implementation of 10 key principles under Vision 2047 will drive progress across all sectors, aligning with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s goal is to position the State as a model of comprehensive and balanced development by the time India celebrates 100 years of independence. He emphasised that Amaravati is not just a project for basic infrastructure, but is designed to offer quality living standards.
Narayana expressed delight at the Central government allocating funds for urban development in the budget. He mentioned that plans are being formulated for urban development in the State using those funds. He urged planners and architects to collaborate in utilising financial resources effectively for urban development.
On the occasion, Lanka Dinakar, the chairman of the 20 Principles Implementation Committee, stated that there would be a focus on sustainable urban development through strategic investments and collaboration, expanding infrastructure, and ensuring financial stability. He noted that a roadmap is being developed to make Andhra Pradesh a prominent State in India. ‘
MA&UD Principal Secretary S Suresh Kumar commented on the necessity of having a plan for every undertaking, stating that miracles cannot happen overnight. He explained that to transform the State into one recognised uniquely within the nation requires a solid plan, and they are progressing in that direction. He noted that consistent efforts yield the best results and said that while there are no planned cities in the country, they are working to design Amaravati as a planned city. He assured that Amaravati would stand out as a clean and green city.
Followed by the inaugural programme, technical sessions were conducted on Financing Urban Development, Affordable Housing & Creative Redevelopment, Municipal Finance, Public-Private Partnerships and Urban Reforms and Urban Innovation & Mobility. During the technical session, the speakers highlighted the need for innovative models and policy reforms to ensure sustainable growth
