The central and state governments are jointly working on a comprehensive action plan to strengthen the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. In this regard, a team from the Union Ministry of Steel held discussions with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at his residence in Undavalli on Monday. The meeting primarily focused on the post-approval measures and subsequent developments following the NDA government’s approval of a special package to strengthen the plant.
During the meeting, Union Minister of State for Steel, Bhupatiraju Srinivasa Varma, expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for the state government’s initiative in providing security to the plant through the Special Protection Force (SPF). Discussions also covered the need for regular monitoring of the plant’s progress, the re-establishment of the third blast furnace alongside the two currently operational furnaces, and other key areas for improvement.
The Chief Minister highlighted the deep emotional connection the state shares with the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (RINL) and the necessity to preserve and strengthen it.
He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Government for considering the state’s request and providing financial assistance for the plant’s revitalisation.
He further underscored the importance of coordinated efforts between the central and state governments to restore the plant to its former glory. He assured that the state government would continue to provide all necessary support for its revival.
Additionally, the Chief Minister pointed out that unless the plant reduces operational costs and enhances efficiency, it may not achieve the desired results.
Steel Ministry Secretary Sandeep Poundrik, Joint Secretary Abhijit Narendra, NMD CMD Amitav Mukherjee, RINL CMD Ajit Kumar Saxena, MECON CMD SK Varma, and MSTC Limited CMD Manojendra Ghosal were present at the meeting.
