120 Miss World contestants expected from across the globe

Telangana is gearing up to host the 72nd edition of the Miss World pageant with grandeur, aiming to put the state’s hospitality and tourism brand on the global map.
Tourism Secretary Smita Sabharwal held a review meeting on Tuesday with officials to ensure that all arrangements are in place for the international event scheduled between May 7 and 31.
Around 120 models representing various countries will arrive in Hyderabad on May 6 and 7. A heritage walk at the Charminar and a grand welcome dinner at the historic Chowmohalla Palace are planned to honour the guests.
Senior officials from the Tourism Department, the GHMC, the Heritage Wing and the police visited the palace to check out the arrangements on the ground.
Ms Smita asked officials to ensure that every detail of the welcome dinner reflects Telangana tourism’s brand image. Along with the models, around 400 international delegates, photographers and media representatives are also expected in the city.
She emphasised that the events must highlight the unique tourism appeal of Telangana – from the opening day to the grand finale.
Plans include a cultural show lasting 20 minutes to showcase Telangana’s vibrant traditions, with live music performances featuring Sufi, qawwali and folk genres. A dedicated photoshoot area with elegant seating will also be arranged inside the palace.
