Chief Minister Revanth Reddy delivered a speech at the extended Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, calling upon Congress workers all over the country to unite under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership and drive the BJP out of power.
Speaking from the banks of the Sabarmati River, he drew sharp historical and political parallels, invoking Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Mahatma Gandhi and the legacy of Telangana’s liberation to build a case against the Modi Government.
Revanth said the Congress Government in Telangana had ‘delivered’ on all the key promises made by Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, that is, waiving farm loans amounting to Rs 21,000 crore benefiting 25 lakh farmers and successfully conducting the caste census.
“Our government has fulfilled the words of Rahul Gandhi in just 10 months after coming to power,” he said, contrasting it with what he called the “failures and betrayal” of the BJP-led Centre.
Lashing out at Prime Minister Modi, he accused the Centre of silencing Rahul Gandhi in Parliament to suppress the issue of caste census.
“Modi ‘fears’ Rahul because he ‘speaks’ for the poor, the backward and the voiceless. Modi promised two crore jobs every year. But 20 crore jobs are missing, and two crore people are being ‘pushed’ into joblessness every year,” he said.
Referring to the protest by farmers against the farm laws, Revanth said, “For 15 months, farmers fought on the streets, but the Modi Government refused to talk. Is this democracy?”
Describing the BJP as “more dangerous than the British,” Revanth said Mahatma Gandhi was never attacked during colonial rule, but within
six months of Independence, those spreading Godse’s ideology assassinated him.
“Today, that ideology is being carried forward by the BJP. We must stop them,” he declared.
“From Vallabhbhai Patel’s land, I’m giving this message. Just as Sardar Patel liberated Telangana from the Nizam, Sonia Gandhi gave us statehood, and now, under her leadership, we will ensure that the BJP never enters Telangana,” he said.
The Chief Minister concluded his speech with a call to action. “Congress workers and the followers of Mahatma Gandhi must take responsibility. From this land of struggles, I am returning with renewed determination to ‘empower’ farmers, women and youth. We will stop the BJP.”
