The popular intercity daily train, No. 12713/12714 Pinakini Express, operating between Vijayawada and Chennai Central, will be upgraded with modern Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches from 22 June, replacing the existing ICF coaches. This major upgrade aims to enhance passenger safety and travel comfort.

Narendra A Patil, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Vijayawada Division, South Central Railway, said, “With the introduction of LHB coaches, passengers on the Pinakini Express can look forward to a safer, smoother, and more enjoyable journey. This initiative is part of Indian Railways’ broader efforts to modernise its infrastructure and rolling stock.”

“We remain committed to prioritising passenger safety, convenience, and operational efficiency through technological advancements and service improvements,” he added.

ADVANTAGES

LHB coaches offer several advantages over the older ICF design. These include:

Superior Comfort: Ergonomically designed seats with improved cushioning, advanced air suspension systems, and larger windows contribute to a more pleasant travel experience.

Higher Speed and Stability: The new coaches support higher operational speeds with enhanced stability, ensuring a smoother ride.

Improved Ventilation and Aesthetics: Modern interiors, better ventilation, and reduced noise levels provide a premium travel environment.

Enhanced Safety: LHB coaches feature anti-climbing technology and improved crashworthiness, significantly reducing the risk of derailments.

Safe Cooking Facilities: The hot buffet car is fully air-conditioned and fitted with induction cooking, along with an Automatic Fire Detection and Suppression system.

Greater Energy Efficiency: Being lighter than ICF coaches, LHB coaches improve fuel efficiency and lower operating costs.

They can also run at speeds of up to 160–200 km/h, compared to a maximum of 110 km/h for ICF coaches.
