Housing, I & PR, and Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said that Telangana is the only state which provides Rs 5 lakh for the construction of houses for the poor.

He said that Telangana is the only state in India which is constructing 4.5 lakh houses per year with a budget of Rs 5 lakh for the poor.

He said the Telangana Government led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy launched the Indiramma Housing Scheme to enable the poor to live with dignity.

He said that all states are making do with funds given by the Centre for housing schemes, but in Telangana the Congress Government formulated a scheme so that beneficiaries themselves can build their houses, provided that it is not less than 400 square feet, with Rs 5 lakh.

“This year, we are going to build 4.50 lakh Indiramma houses at a cost of Rs 22,000 crore, and we will complete the selection of beneficiaries in a few days,” he said. The construction of houses is going on in pilot villages, he added.

Meanwhile, 350 Assistant Engineers who were hired by the Housing Corporation, and have received training for six days at the National Academy of Construction (NAC) were presented certificates at the NAC on Saturday by Ponguleti.

Speaking on the occasion, he appealed to the Assistant Engineers to work honestly in accordance with the government’s policies. He said that it is a matter of joy that 45 per cent of the 350 selected engineers are women.

The government promoted 21 employees in the Stamps & Registration Department. 10 Sub-Registrars working in Grade-2 were promoted to Grade-1 and 11 senior assistants were promoted to Grade-2. The Minister presented the certificates of promotion to them.
