Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar convened a breakfast meeting with panchayat secretaries from his Husnabad constituency to assess drinking water problems in rural areas and assured them that the Congress Government is committed to resolving their problems.
Speaking candidly at the meeting, Ponnam acknowledged that the role of panchayat secretaries is central to grassroots governance.
“From TGSRTC workers to panchayat secretaries, everyone participated in the Telangana Movement. We have not forgotten your struggle. It is because of your support that the ‘Praja Palana’ Government came to power,” he said.
He emphasised that while some challenges remain, including delays in resolving demands due to the financial mess left behind by the BRS government, the current administration is actively engaged.
“In the last 10 years, the state witnessed destruction. Naturally, there is a delay. But rest assured, your issues are not being ignored. We are here, accessible, and trying to solve them,” he said.
Ponnam reiterated that the government no longer maintains barriers between officials and employees. “In the past, there were fences between the government and its staff. We have broken them. You will always find our doors open,” he added.
He acknowledged that panchayat secretaries do not have formal job cards and promised to take up their concerns. Drawing a comparison, he said, “Just like the Chief Secretary doesn’t have a job chart, you too don’t have one. But in every gram panchayat, the secretary holds complete responsibility.”
Describing panchayat secretaries as the “eyes and ears” of the state government, he stated that their role in delivering welfare schemes is crucial. “You are the bridge between the people and the government. From sanitation to housing, your presence shapes rural Telangana,” he said.
Ponnam also said that while the BRS Government provided only 250 houses in Husnabad, the current admin has already rolled out multiple schemes like free bus travel for women, 200 units of free power, and social welfare schemes.
