Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed officials to prioritise the completion of pending irrigation projects across Telangana, with a clear timeline to finish all Krishna basin works by June 2027. Chairing a high-level review at Jalasoudha on Wednesday evening, the Chief Minister said that the next two years will be crucial to delivering on the State’s irrigation commitments and urged departments to set clear targets and adhere to deadlines.

Revanth emphasised the need to fast-track low-cost projects and instructed the Finance Department to ensure that funds are not a constraint for key works in the Krishna basin. He also stressed the importance of seamless coordination with the Revenue Department to expedite land acquisition processes, and said special officers must take lead in accelerating works.

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister handed over appointment letters to 244 newly recruited Assistant Executive Engineers and 199 Junior Technical Officers at an event held at Jalasoudha. Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, Finance Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Irrigation Secretary Rahul Bojja, and Secretary Prashant Patil were present at the function, along with ENC Anil Kumar.

In the subsequent review meeting, Revanth directed officials to give priority to completing the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme (PRLIS) up to Uddandapur within 18 months. A detailed action plan must be prepared to ensure this deadline is met, he said. The Koilsagar Lift project should be completed by June 2026, he added.

The Chief Minister also set December 2025 as the deadline to finish pending works under the Mahatma Gandhi Kalwakurthy Lift, Jawahar Nettempadu Lift, and Rajiv Bheema Lift projects. He reviewed the status of these projects, including the funds required, and sought updates from officials.

On the broader policy front, Revanth said Telangana must intensify its efforts to secure its rightful share of Krishna waters. Seventy percent of the Krishna River basin lies within Telangana. Yet, we receive only 30 percent of the water. We must present our case strongly before the tribunal to secure 70 percent allocation,” he asserted.

He also noted that Andhra Pradesh continues to draw 90 TMC from the Godavari basin through Pattiseema, and called for similar provisions to use upstream share within Telangana. These concerns must be strongly presented before the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB), he added.
