Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageshwara Rao expressed displeasure over the lack of auditing in Apex Cooperative Societies during the last 10 years. He ordered action against the concerned audit officers regarding this.
He expressed impatience with audit officials on why the audit of apex cooperative societies was not conducted in the last 10 years and directed the Cooperation and Registrar of Cooperative Societies (RCS) Commissioner to take immediate action against the concerned audit officials.
Tummala asked the officials to undertake the construction of godowns and cold storages under the supervision of the Marketing Department using NABARD and RIDF funds.
The Minister, who held a review meeting with Marketing, Oil Fed and Agriculture Department officials at the secretariat on Tuesday, asked the officials to construct more godowns and cold storages to increase the capacity of existing godowns and cold storages.
He said that NABARD and RIDF funds can be used for this and wanted steps to ensure that farmers’ markets are properly managed so that only farmers can sell their products there. For this, CCTV cameras should be installed in all markets and farmers’ markets, Tummala said.
He also inquired about the installation of digital boards in markets. The Minister asked marketing officials to examine the proposals received from public representatives for the re-division of market yards and to take appropriate steps to immediately establish those that comply with rules.
The Agriculture Director said that 40 lakh cotton seed packets have already been prepared district-wise in view of the onset of the monsoon season, and two crore seed packets will be made available to farmers in the next 10 to 15 days.
Speaking on the occasion, Tummala asked Agriculture Department officials to make adequate seeds and fertilisers available to farmers.
The Minister also inquired about the availability of Pachirotta seeds and wanted adequate Pachirotta seeds to be made available.
He also wanted to complete the collection of two lakh soil samples by May-end and take steps to ensure that their results are available to farmers within two months.
He also asked officials to prepare appropriate plans so that every farmer gets the results of soil sample tests and to ensure that this facility is provided in all market yards and farmers’ forums.
Tummala also instructed officials to inform farmers about the crops to be planted based on soil sample tests.
He inquired about the procurement of various types of crop products under the supervision of Mark Fed and said that this time, one lakh tonnes of Jowar have already been procured like never before, and the government is committed to providing remunerative prices to farmers even if they have suffered losses. He also asked officials to ensure that no mistakes are made while procuring Jowar.
