Hyd terror module busted at formation stage: DGP

Telangana Director General of Police Dr Jitender on Friday confirmed that the State police successfully foiled a terror conspiracy in Hyderabad by identifying and dismantling a group in the early stages of its formation. The plot was reportedly being orchestrated by Sameer, who is currently in custody and under interrogation.
Briefing the media, the DGP said sleeper cells were identified within the city, and intelligence agencies acted swiftly to prevent their activation. “A group was being formed to execute a larger conspiracy. We intercepted them before they could become operational and neutralised the threat,” he stated. He added that Telangana continues to remain peaceful, with the police maintaining constant vigilance.
On the left-wing extremism front, Dr. Jitender revealed that 300 Maoists have surrendered across Telangana, signalling a significant shift towards peace. “We urge anyone still underground to surrender and join the mainstream,” he said, reiterating the government’s commitment to rehabilitation
and reintegration.
Referring to the Gulzar Houz fire incident in Hyderabad, which claimed 17 lives, the DGP said the tragedy was deeply unfortunate. He informed that a government-appointed committee is currently probing the incident. “The investigation is ongoing. Once the committee submits its report, it will be forwarded to the government, which will then decide on the next steps,” he assured.
While central forces led the Chhattisgarh operation that recently made headlines, Telangana’s internal security apparatus has been focused on both urban threats and rural extremist movements. The DGP stressed that the state’s security agencies are determined to maintain law and order while proactively addressing emerging threats.
