In a ghastly road accident, six people were killed and two others injured when the Innova car in which they were travelling collided with a lorry at Tadicharlamotu village in Komarolu mandal of Prakasam district on Friday.
According to the police, eight members of a family had gone to visit the Mahanandi temple in Nandyal district. While returning to their native village of Stuvartpuram in Bapatla district, their vehicle collided head-on with a lorry, resulting in the instant death of six occupants. Two children sustained injuries in the mishap.
The deceased were identified as Gajjala Anakalu (50), Gajjala Narasimha (20), Batcha Sandeep (30), Gajjala Bhavani (20), Gajjala Babulu (29), and Karredula Divakar (30). The injured children—five-year-old Gajjala Siri and three-year-old Gajjala Siddardha—were admitted to the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Giddalur.
Police said it took them several hours to extricate the bodies from the mangled remains of the car. A case has been registered and the bodies were shifted to the GGH in Giddalur for post-mortem examination.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock and grief over the tragic incident. He enquired with officials about the accident and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families, assuring all necessary support.
Transport Minister M. Ramprasad Reddy also expressed deep sorrow over the accident. He spoke to transport officials in Prakasam district and directed them to extend all required assistance to the affected families.
Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer expressed anguish and profound grief over the road accident that occurred near Taticherlamotu in Komarolu mandal of Prakasam district on Friday, in which seven persons from Stuartpuram, returning from Mahanandi, are reported to have lost their lives.
The Governor directed the district administration to provide all possible assistance to the affected families and conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved.
Former chief minister and YSR Congress Party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy also expressed deep sorrow over the tragic accident near Taticherlamotu, in which six persons lost their lives.
The deceased, hailing from Stuartpuram in Bapatla district, were returning home after offering prayers at the sacred shrine of Mahanandi when their vehicle collided with a lorry.
YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed distress that such a devastating incident had occurred just as the victims were returning from a spiritual pilgrimage.
Describing the accident as extremely heart-wrenching, he urged the government to ensure the best possible medical care for the injured and to extend full support to the bereaved families.
