5 killed as lorry rams car

In a tragic road accident, five members of a family lost their lives when a speeding lorry rammed into their car at Guvvalacheruvu village in CK Dinne mandal of Kadapa district on Saturday.

According to the police, six persons were travelling from Rayachoti to Kadapa to attend a family function when the lorry struck their car from the rear. The impact was so severe that the lorry overturned and landed on the car, crushing it completely. Five of the occupants died on the spot, while a three-year-old girl miraculously escaped unhurt.

The victims hailed from Chintaputtaiahpalle village in Badvel mandal. Four of the deceased have been identified as Srikanth, Shirisha, Harshini, and Hruthikesh Reddy. The car was mangled beyond recognition, and the police had to struggle to retrieve the bodies after removing the overturned lorry.

Police suspect rash and negligent driving by the lorry driver, who is currently absconding. A case has been registered, and the bodies were shifted to the Government General Hospital for post-mortem.

Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer expressed deep sorrow over the accident and instructed the district administration to provide necessary medical assistance to the injured. He conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu also expressed grief over the incident and assured all necessary support to the affected families.

Minister for BC and EBC Welfare S Savitha spoke to Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar regarding the incident, while Transport Minister M Ramprasad Reddy directed transport officials to take stringent measures to prevent road accidents. Former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy too expressed shock and called on the government to provide assistance to the families of the deceased.

Following the accident, traffic on the highway was disrupted for over three hours, with vehicles stranded on either side for nearly 2 km.
