A tragic accident near Benz Circle in Vijayawada on Saturday claimed the lives of three family members in an apartment at Nara Chandrababu Naidu Colony. Police identified the deceased as Saladi Prasad (61), his wife Venkata Hemavani (54), and Prasad’s sister, Taravali Mutyavalli (55).

The incident occurred when Venkata Hemavani was removing clothes hung on a wire to dry.

Unaware that the wire was electrically charged, she suffered a severe electric shock and collapsed. Her husband, Saladi Prasad, rushed to her aid but was also electrocuted. Prasad’s sister, Mutyavalli, intervened upon seeing them in distress and suffered the same fate.

All three died instantly. Locals quickly disconnected the power supply and alerted the authorities. The police have registered a case and started investigating the cause of the electrified wire. The bodies were taken to the Government General Hospital (GGH) for postmortem examination.

Preliminary findings indicate that poor insulation or electrical leakage might have led to the accident, though official confirmation awaits further investigation. Saladi Prasad, a lorry driver, was well known in the neighbourhood for his hard work. The tragic loss has left the community deeply saddened.

East Constituency MLA Gadde Rammohan Rao visited the site, reviewed the incident, and offered his condolences to the bereaved family. He directed officials to conduct a thorough inquiry and to check electrical safety standards in the area.
