The Telangana Government has given permission for establishing a new campus for the Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) in Mahbubnagar district.

The administrative sanction was issued on Wednesday under Section 3(2) of the RGUKT Act, 2008, paving the way for academic operations from the 2025–26 academic year.

The GO Ms. No. 24 issued by the Higher Education Department says the new RGUKT campus will offer three streams in Computer Science and Engineering, that is, General, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, and Data Science.

These courses have been designed as per emerging technology trends and the growing demand for specialised talent.

The proposal was jointly submitted by the Telangana Council of Higher Education and the Commissioner of Technical Education. After careful review, the TG government approved the establishment of the new institution and directed the concerned departments accordingly.

However, the GO clarified that the sanction of the budget and creation of posts for the new university will be issued at a later stage. The Vice Chancellor (in charge) of RGUKT Basar and the Commissioner of Technical Education have been asked to carry out further steps in line with the administrative sanction. The government’s decision was issued with the concurrence of the Finance Department as per proceedings dated May 21.
