Enthusiasm soared at the Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) annual conclave, Mahanadu-2025, held in Kadapa on day 2, with party chief and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu outlining a comprehensive vision for Andhra Pradesh’s development and regional prosperity, particularly for Rayalaseema.
Naidu hailed the successful organisation of Mahanadu and congratulated all those who contributed to the event’s triumph. He stressed that six key resolutions and in-depth discussions during the convention laid the foundation for a 40-year roadmap aimed at the sustained growth and empowerment of the Telugu people globally.
“Only the Telugu Desam Party has the strength and experience to elevate the Telugu community on the world stage,” Naidu asserted. He described the favourable weather during the event as a sign that “even nature supported Mahanadu this year”.
The Chief Minister highlighted the TDP’s legacy in maintaining law and order, crediting the party for eradicating Naxalism, factionalism and rowdyism. He strongly criticised the previous YSRCP government, claiming it institutionalised crime and allowed ganja cultivation to become a widespread village-level trade in agency areas. “In the past five years, properties were unsafe and drugs ruled the streets,” he stated.
Reiterating his commitment to law enforcement, Naidu warned, “Wrongdoers will not be spared, no matter who they are. I urge my party workers not to take the law into their own hands. The government will act decisively and ruthlessly against all criminals.”
He announced that those involved in the drug trade would have their properties seized, and that these seized assets would be used for the welfare of victims affected by drug abuse and criminal activities.
Naidu also laid out major plans for Rayalaseema’s revival, promising that the region would no longer remain drought-prone. He cited NTR’s vision in initiating landmark water projects like Telugu Ganga, Handri-Neeva and Nagari-Galeru, which he vowed to complete and expand.
“For Rayalaseema, ?3,800 crore is being invested this year in water projects, second only to Polavaram,” Naidu revealed. He said that micro-irrigation would be a top priority, stating, “The water used for one acre can now irrigate 2.5 acres, enhancing agricultural productivity.”
Naidu confirmed that the Veligonda project would be completed on a priority basis. The flagship Polavaram project is targeted for completion by December 2027, after which it will be connected to Banakacharla via Krishna River and the Bollapalli reservoir. “Once this is done, the face of Andhra Pradesh will change,” he predicted.
He also reiterated the long-term goal of interlinking rivers from Vamsadhara to Penna, a move he described as repaying “our debt to the Telugu land.” Naidu noted that utilising surplus water that otherwise drains into the sea would also benefit Telangana, countering BRS’s criticism of the interlinking plans.
“We never opposed Telangana’s rightful use of Godavari waters,” he said, pointing out the TDP’s pivotal role in developing Hyderabad and creating Cyberabad.
