North Andhra Pradesh continued to receive intense rainfall on Wednesday as heavy showers battered several districts, triggered by the formation of a well-marked low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system is associated with cyclonic circulation extending up to mid-tropospheric levels and is likely to intensify into a depression within the next 24 hours while moving northward.

As per reports from Skymet Weather, the southwest monsoon has advanced into most parts of Northeast India and extended further into several regions, including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and the remaining parts of Andhra Pradesh and the west-central Bay of Bengal.

The IMD Amaravati centre has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam in the coming days. Gusty winds with speeds reaching 50–60 kmph are also expected in these regions. Districts including Srikakulam, Parvathipuram Manyam, and Vizianagaram are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall, while Visakhapatnam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Anakapalli, Kakinada, East Godavari, and Yanam are expected to receive heavy rain.

The weather pattern will continue over the next several days, with May 29 expected to bring heavy rain at isolated places over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds of 50-60 kmph. By May 30, conditions will slightly moderate with heavy rain still likely at isolated places, but wind speeds reducing to 40-50 kmph. The weather system will gradually weaken, with thunderstorms and reduced wind speeds of 40-50 kmph expected on May 31, and further decrease to 30-40 kmph by June 1.

On Wednesday, Tekkali in Srikakulam district recorded the highest rainfall at 14 cm, Kalingapatnam (13 cm), Velairpad in Eluru district (9 cm), while Therlam in Vizianagaram (8 cm), Eluru district (7 cm), Chodavaram (4.1cm), Parvathipuram Manyam and Alluri Sitharama Raju districts (4.64 cm), Paderu (2.46 cm), and Araku Valley (1.66 cm).
