Chief Minister Revanth Reddy reviewed the state’s monsoon preparedness and asked officials to ensure round-the-clock availability of emergency teams.
Chairing a high-level meeting on Tuesday, he emphasised swift, coordinated action to prevent waterlogging, traffic disruptions and flooding in Hyderabad.
The Chief Minister also suggested that a dedicated urban policy should be considered for managing lakes, drains and road widening within the core urban region (T-CUR). This policy would help streamline development and disaster management in densely populated areas, he said.
The Chief Minister specifically reviewed flood control measures at 141 identified waterlogging points across the city and sought updates on the construction of rainwater harvesting wells. He said that rainwater entering these wells must be quickly pumped out using automatic pumps to prevent flooding.
Stressing the importance of proactive planning, Revanth asked departments to keep tabs on meteorological forecasts and take pre-emptive measures. He called for a dedicated monitoring mechanism at the Command Control Centre to track rainfall and floods.
“Departments like the police, traffic, HYDRAA and the GHMC must be alert and closely coordinate to avoid chaos during heavy rains,” he said. The Chief Minister underlined the importance of inter-departmental synergy and asked officers to ensure that desilting of drains is completed at the earliest.
Revanth asked officials to identify vulnerable zones and draft local action plans.
Special attention was urged in the core urban region within the Outer Ring Road (ORR), where the risk of flooding is higher. He said the desilting of drains and lakes must be speeded up.
