The film Bhairavam released last Friday, featuring three actors—Bellamkonda Sai Srinivas, Manchu Manoj and Nara Rohit—coming together for the project. Directed by Vijay Kanakamedala, it is a remake of the Tamil hit Garudan. The Telugu makers promoted the film quite well, but unfortunately, it has ended up as a flop at the box office.
Produced by K.K. Radhamohan, the film was made on a budget of nearly Rs 30 crore, but the producer is expected to recover only around 30% of the investment. The movie collected nearly Rs 8.85 crore gross in the first three days worldwide. The pre-release business was around Rs 16.20 crore, and for the film to be considered a hit, it needed to collect Rs 17 crore. However, from Monday onwards, the collections dipped drastically. While the promotions were strong, the director seemed to focus more on showcasing the three lead actors rather than strengthening the story. This lack of narrative depth appears to have affected the film’s performance.
One of the major reasons Bhairavam didn’t do well is the re-release of Mahesh Babu’s Khaleja, which drew huge crowds and performed strongly at the box office, despite being an older film.
The second reason is the Indian Premier League (IPL). With audiences focused on the matches, interest in the film dwindled. The IPL final took place on Tuesday, which further affected footfall, especially for a film already struggling to gain momentum.
Overall, the film has been a major disappointment—particularly for Bellamkonda Sai Srinivas. For Manchu Manoj, Bhairavam marked a comeback after a nine-year break. Similarly, it was also a comeback film for Nara Rohit. Sadly, the poor performance at the box office has dampened the impact of their return.
