Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has proposed the establishment of a Civil Aviation University in Visakhapatnam and called for enhanced domestic and international air connectivity from Andhra Pradesh’s key airports.
Chairing a high-level review meeting on Wednesday at the State Secretariat, Naidu reviewed the progress of terminal construction works at Vijayawada International Airport. Union Minister for Civil Aviation K. Ram Mohan Naidu, senior officials from the Ministry, and the Chairman of the Airports Authority of India participated virtually. Emphasising the need for a distinctive terminal design, the Chief Minister directed officials to incorporate elements reflecting the cultural heritage of Andhra Pradesh. He proposed featuring motifs such as Kuchipudi dance, Kondapalli toys, Amaravati symbols, and Lepakshi art across the terminal’s architecture, including the façade, passenger lounges, and arrival and departure areas.
Naidu stressed the timely completion of the terminal building and its ramp connection to the national highway. He also reviewed the status of terminal projects at Kadapa and Rajamahendravaram airports.
Union Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu informed that technical feasibility studies are underway for proposed airports at Dagadarthi, Kuppam, and Palasa in Srikakulam district. He noted that land surveys are in progress for the Amaravati Airport and that a RITES team will soon submit its report. Highlighting the growing demand, the Union Minister said operations at Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam airports have increased by nearly 40%, with more operators showing interest in expanding connectivity from airports in Tirupati, Rajamahendravaram, and Kurnool.
