SV Ramayya Memorial ITF World Masters Tour from Jan 1

Andhra Pradesh Lawn Tennis Association (APLTA) vice president Dr K Pattabhi Ramaiah has said that with the support of APLTA, international Master Tennis Player Dr Sudhagani Ramakrishna will organise International Tennis Federation World MastersTour (ITF MT) for Men and Women in memory of his father SV Ramayya at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium in Vijayawada from January 1 to 6. As many as 100 Master Tennis players would participate in this tournament, he said.

As part of the ITF MT tournament, Dr Pattabhi Rama Ramaiah unveiled trophies and T-shirts at the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) Tennis Complex on the premises of IGMC Stadium in Vijayawada on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Pattabhi Ramaiah said that Dr Sudhagani Ramakrushna is sponsoring the Rs.2 lakh prize money. Vijayawada Police Commissioner Kanti Rana Tata will inaugurate the tournament on January 2, he said.

He further said that International Masters Tennis players like M Suresh, D Rama Rao, CR Gangadhar, Dr Ramakrishna, and CBS Vara Prasad will participate in this tournament. All India Tennis Association qualified umpire Praveen Kumar Naik would be acted as Chief Referee, and Kolkata’s Sports Kedia Barun Lala will be tournament director and assisted by Ashish Sen, he added.

Tournament Sponsor Dr A Ramakrishna said that the main motive of the tournament is to improve Masters points and will try to organise World Tennis Masters Tournament. Vijayawada has a great history in organizing ATP Men’s tournaments 20 years back and saw all top-ranked players of India and a few foreigners, he said.

Krishna District Lawn Tennis Association President PV Ram Kumar and executive member Mallikharjun Rao participated.
