ED likely to wait till SC verdict

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) may wait till the Supreme Court’s verdict before making its next move against BRS MLC Kavitha in the Delhi liquor scam. The ED has not issued any new summons to Kavitha after questioning her on March 20.
The Supreme Court said that it will hear Kavitha’s petition on March 24. But BRS sources said that according to their information, the Supreme Court may not take up Kavitha’s petition on March 24. They said that the Supreme Court may take up the case on March 27.
Political observers and the BRS think that the arrest of Kavitha in connection with the Delhi liquor scam is certain, but when it will happen is not known. Kavitha appeared before the ED in New Delhi twice in connection with the Delhi liquor scam. On both occasions, BRS leaders including Ministers thought that the ED might arrest Kavitha and they went to New Delhi in a symbolic act of support for Kavitha.
But the ED did not arrest Kavitha as expected by BRS leaders. In fact, at a BRS meeting, BRS President Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said the ED may arrest Kavitha in the New Delhi liquor scam.
Kavitha herself said that she is ready to go behind bars in the case as she was innocent.
After Kavitha filed the petition in the Supreme Court against the ED, the SC decided to hear her petition on March 24. But the ED summoned Kavitha to appear before them on March 20.
The Supreme Court refused to grant an urgent hearing of the case or stay the ED summons issued to Kavitha. After this, the ED reportedly decided not to make any new moves till the Supreme Court gives its verdict on Kavitha’s petition.
The ED thinks that the Supreme Court verdict will be in their favour and once the Supreme Court issues an order endorsing them there will be no more legal hurdles against taking action against Kavitha in the Delhi liquor scam.
At the same time, the ED thinks that the Supreme Court’s verdict will strengthen its stand in Kavitha’s case. BRS circles think the ED may not take any hasty step until the Supreme Court delivers its verdict on Kavitha’s petition.
Now all eyes are on the Supreme Court’s verdict and the ED’ss moves against Kavitha.
Meanwhile, after returning from New Delhi, Kavitha met her father Chief Minister KCR at the Pragathi Bhavan and briefed him about the ED’s questioning that lasted around 10 hours. KCR reportedly told Kavitha that the case is politically driven and that the BRS will face the case politically.
