Back with another interesting travel tale this week, The Pioneer brings to you actress Seerat Kapoor’s trip to Leh, her experience with the serenity of Leh, and also her most memorable work trip.

Seerat Kapoor is an adventurist at heart. She just couldn’t ignore the call of the mountains, and as she got some time off her busy schedule, visiting Leh was at the top of her list.  The closeness with nature is what made her experience the serenity of Leh. She shared that it was not just the magnificence of the Himalayas that blew her mind, but at the same time, the marvellous views of the lakes also made her travel experience full of excitement.

“The altitude of the place was always on my mind; I had to check it out. I heard how the altitude actually challenges travellers! I started my trip in Chandigarh and ended it in Leh. The scenic beauty of it was so scintillating. It’s like winter lives there forever. The silhouette that I’d got to see of the ranges was actually so soothing to my eyes.” Seerat had captured so many pictures that it kind of brought out the photographer in her. “There was this beautiful lake that one could capture. However, the temperature was going down to minus. I climbed up the mountain, which was surrounded by so much greenery. Normally, the locals told me that it doesn’t rain over there, but I got lucky and it started to rain as well. I hardly went to the mainstream places; my idea was to explore the localities! I hate having comfort and luxury by my side when I am travelling. Let’s challenge our minds!”

Whenever we visit a new place, one needs to know the culture of that place, and so did Seerat. She described it as “not one cuisine that you can savour over there but multiple. I joined the tourists and started trying the local cuisine. In fact, I visited some of the locals’ homes as well, and they’re all safe. There was a community where there were only Himachali homes. The feast wasn’t spread on the table, but we were sitting down and having it.” Besides Himachali food, there was also Tibetan food available for her. Then there were the Nepalese delicacies, like a thukpa! And then she went on to try the signature dishes. “Everything was very misty over there. You just can’t ignore the exotic flora and fauna that the place has to offer. The sun was out, but it wasn’t like some scorching heat was burning your bodies. Like when I went to Nubra Valley, I enjoyed the solidarity with nature. And then it started to snow. I saw all the transitions in the climate in one place. My ten days in Leh were fulfilled. I noticed another cool activity that we can do over there: you can try out their traditional costumes (she laughed). And then a camel ride!”

Getting along with the local people just to spend some time out of her urban life was so relaxing for the actress! She made the most of it. In addition, “We didn’t stop there; we went camping and rope climbing. I was very particular about this trip, so even the hotel that I chose was very traditional in its structure. Regular Michelin-starred hotels are okay for shooting schedules, but not while travelling. Nowadays, even hotels have a cultural pattern attached to them! We went to a Swiss camp, it was a luxury camping place but had its authenticity attached. Organic food was growing around us.”

She had frightening moments too — “None of these places actually had connectivity. Electricity was going on and off! Sometimes it was intimidating when we were up on the mountain and there was no connectivity or electricity. Roads were not lit! I was not having my regular healthy diet, and there I was experimenting with my taste buds. Once it had a reverse effect on me!”

During the early days of her career, the one place that she could never forget on a work trip was Bangkok. “We were filming in Bangkok for a commercial. I was dancing on the streets of Bangkok then! Then, overnight, we transit to four different places inside Bangkok. It may sound hysterical to my fans, but having my cup of tea in another country is a different feeling altogether. We were pulling all-nighters, and my tea was so helpful in that. Moving away from my healthy diet, I was busy having my bowl of spaghetti over there before every shot! I was still looking toned on camera (she giggled). I don’t recommend this, but once in a while, a cheat meal is okay.”
