Engg students should keep pace with technologies: Governor

Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer inaugurated the Drone Research & Development Centre, established at the Dhanekula Institute of Engineering & Technology, here on Wednesday, and participated as chief guest in the 14th anniversary celebrations of the college.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor advised the students that they should carve out a niche career for themselves in the emerging technologies be it drone technology, artificial intelligence or machine learning. The Governor said that India was making tremendous progress in the fields of manufacturing of electric vehicles, digitisation, artificial intelligence etc. and the usage of drones in different sectors was on the rise in the country. He said that drones were now being used in surveillance, geographical mapping, disaster management, search and rescue, agriculture etc. and there was a great need for the students to enhance their skills in the field of drone technology, design, integration, architecture etc. He further said that it was essential for the students to become aware and get themselves equipped with all facets of the technology to pursue careers in this emerging sector. The Governor appreciated the initiative taken by the college for setting up the Drone R&D Centre in collaboration with Dronix Engineering Ltd, Israel.

Earlier, Governor Abdul Nazeer presented medals to meritorious students of the college and congratulated them for their academic achievement. Justice Jasti Chalameswar, former Judge of Supreme Court of India, was the guest of honour.

D Ravindranath Tagore, chairman, Dhanekula Institute of Engineering & Technology, felicitated the Governor with a memento and a shawl.

Dr GVR Prasad Raju, Vice-Chancellor, JNTU, Kakinada, Nir Gendler, CEO, Dronix, Israel, DKRK Ravi Prasad, Director, D Venkata Bhavani Prasad, Correspondent & Secretary, and Ravi Kadiyala, Principal of the Institute, were among other dignitaries who attended the programme.
