Congress tries to ignite Indiramma sentiment in TS

Must read

Ahead of the crucial Assembly elections in Telangana all major political parties are trying to ignite sentiments among the people.

Major political parties like the BRS, the BJP and the Congress are banking on sentiments. The BRS is known for igniting the Telangana sentiment during elections. The BJP banks on the Hindutva sentiment and the Congress is now trying out the ‘Indiramma’ sentiment.

During her visit to Hyderabad on Monday AICC General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi made an attempt to ignite the Indiramma sentiment in view of the attachment Indira Gandhi had to Telangana.

It may be recalled that when the Congress was facing a crisis in the past, Indira Gandhi contested from the Medak Lok Sabha constituency and won. As Prime Minister, she represented Medak in the Lok Sabha.

Priyanka Gandhi has a strong resemblance to her grandmother Indira Gandhi. In her speech, Priyanka said, “When you compare me to my grandmother Indira Gandhi and call me Naya Indiramma, I feel a huge sense of responsibility as she was an incredible leader who gave a lot to the country.” Priyanka also said that Indira Gandhi sacrificed her life for the country.

Indira had massive support among weaker sections, particularly the SC and ST communities. They still remember Indira’s good deeds for them. Keeping these things in mind the Congress is trying to ignite the Indiramma sentiment among people.

In this, Priyanka has an advantage as she resembles her grandmother Indira Gandhi and she may visit Telangana frequently during the Assembly election campaign. Congress leaders have a lot of hopes about Priyanka’s campaign.

The Telangana Assembly elections are very crucial for the Congress. The Congress has been away from power in the state and at the Centre after granting statehood to Telangana.

This time the Congress is confident of coming to power in Telangana. If the Congress wins the Karnataka Assembly elections it may prove an additional advantage for it in the Telangana Assembly elections.

Former AICC president Rahul Gandhi released the Rythu Declaration at Warangal and now AICC General Secretary Priyanka released the Youth Declaration.

The Congress thinks that as the BRS has been in power in the state and the BJP at the Centre for a decade both parties must be facing some anti-incumbency. The Congress is banking on anti-incumbency against the BRS and the BJP to win the Telangana Assembly elections.
